God's nature has not changed since the days of Isaiah. Worship still serves as a barometer of a people's relationship with God. The responsibility to be God's light to a darkened world now resides in the church. Isaiah thus presents a timeless message for those who desire to know God and to respond to him properly.

The first major section of Isaiah hinges on the call of the prophet in chapter 6. In a sense, therefore, the opening section is constructed like the book as a whole, which hinges around the historical events of chapters 36–39.1 In both cases the first section focuses on judgment with glimpses of hope, whereas the second focuses on future redemption without abandoning the judgment which must precede the redemption.
